Join the Friends of Historic Commons, Interlochen Public Radio and the Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park for a special evening as we celebrate the preservation and future of the Grand Traverse Commons.
This event will trace the evolution of the historic State Hospital grounds- from Dr. Munson’s 19th-century vision to today’s vibrant Village.
Speakers:
- Matthew Ross (Executive Director of the Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park) will discuss the Friends of Historic Commons’ vital work to preserve the majestic arboretum that links Building 50 to the nearby 27-acre Botanic Garden.
- Peter Payette (Executive Director of Interlochen Public Radio) will introduce a screening of a new episode from PBS, Songs About Buildings and Moods, featuring an evocative score written and performed by Interlochen Center for the Arts faculty and students.
- Raymond Minervini II (Partner, The Minervini Group) will share new visions and upcoming development plans to ensure the property thrives for generations to come.
Finally, attendees will learn about an upcoming oral history project with the Friends of Historic Commons to help preserve personal stories that define this campus.
